Feeding Therapy
Feeding therapy is all about supporting children to feel more comfortable and confident with the foods they eat. Sometimes little ones can develop a preference for certain textures or colours due to sensory sensitivities or differences with their oral motor function or chewing skills. This can make mealtimes tricky, with a limited range of foods, reluctance to try new things, and added stress for families.
At Playful Paediatrics our Speech Pathologists take a holistic approach, considering everything from posture and sensory needs to motor skills, behaviour, medical history, and nutrition. This helps us create a tailored plan to address your child's feeding challenges.
What does a feeding assessment involved?
Oral examination - looking at your child’s mouth to see the function of the lips, tongue, teeth, cheeks and jaw.
Observation of your child eating and drinking, using a variety of foods, cups, and utensils.
If needed, we’ll explore communication and play skills, ensuring we cover all bases to help your child thrive during mealtimes.
If your child has difficulties with feeding or you are seeking guidance, we can help!
