Speech Sounds (articulation)
Speech sounds refer to the sounds we use to form words. It is essential that we are able to produce speech sounds clearly to ensure that others are able to understand us.
It is normal for little ones to have some errors. However, it is recommended that you seek an assessment to ensure these are age-appropriate and whether support is required.
If there are lots of speech sound errors and it is very difficult for your child to be understood this can often lead to increased frustration and challenging behaviours.
Additionally, there is a strong link between children who have difficulties with speech sounds and difficulties developing literacy (reading and writing) skills.
If you have concerns about your child’s speech sounds and intelligibility, we can help you.
